  • Geethika is having the time of his journey

For any student, achieving milestones during their College years is a dream come true. Geethika De Silva, in just five short months, has made not one but four significant milestones—a year for him to remember.

In June of this year, he was selected to partake in the Under 19 Sri Lankan Youth League. Just two months later, in August, he joined the Under 17 contest of the same league, alongside two of his College mates. Around the same time, Geethika was called to participate in a practice match against the Under 19 West Indies Cricket Team. His performances across these three tournaments left no doubt that his place should be with the main national squad.

Tomorrow, he makes his International Cricket debut as a member of our Sri Lanka Under 19 National Cricket Team. They face off with Pakistan Under 19 National Team in a tour spanning until the end of this month in Karachi.

As Geethika continues to set his milestones, the St. Anne's College family extends our heartfelt best wishes for a successful and victorious tour. We hope Geethika will make our country proud just as he has made our College proud.

  • Little Annite did Big! - Methoopa Dewnith qualified for 2022 Commonwealth Chess Championship

Annites are on a roll! Junior Annite Methoopa Dewnith will represent Sri Lanka at the 2022 Commonwealth Chess Championship.

Methoopa will play in the Under 10 Open category. Players from 8 Commonwealth nations are taking part in this tournament organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka and will be held at the Citrus Waskaduwa Hotel, Kalutara.

What a big moment for little Methoopa! This came after we heard the other good news of our Pruthivi qualifying for the 6th South Asian Karate Championship, making this a jubilant coincidence for all Annites.

You won for the College. Now is the time to win for the country. We are all rooting for you.

    Go Methoopa!

  • Looking back at Pruthivi's success

"Behind every successful man is his hard work and good mentors."

Pruthivi Sri Vitharana, the star of the moment stands center stage with glory. Nothing can be taken away from this young Annite, all of his hard work and sacrifice finally paid off. You deserve this moment, Pruthivi and we are so proud of you!
To his right, the Rev. Fr. Principal Chandana Hapuarachchi stands tall and has guided our boys all the way to success as has been repeated in recent years. To the left is the Teacher in-Charge, Ms. Theja Rathnayake Hangilipola, who took over just 2 years ago and walked the whole mileage with our players, motivating and fixing impediments. The gentleman on the far right is Pruthivi's coach, Mr. Padhma Sri Manjula, the one who taught all the karate moves from zero to final glory.

So there you have it, the perfect recipe for the 2022 South Asian ?Karate Championship's triumph. Shall we all take a moment and give a round of applause for this successful team effort.

Thus we conclude one milestone in the Annites sports chapter. Hopefully, there will be more to come.

  • Overview of the Journey of Tharaka Udayanaga

Success is not an overnight achievement; it's the result of persistent effort and constant determination. Here we are looking at an overview of the journey of Tharaka Udayanga, who claimed the 1st rank in our district (and secured the 7th place in the island) in Physical Science stream of the GCE Advanced Level Examination 2022. Along this path to his outstanding accomplishment, he accumulated numerous significant achievements.

Tharaka was admitted to St. Anne's College in the second grade in 2009. From then on, he actively participated in both extracurricular and curricular activities. In the fourth grade, he represented Sri Lanka at the 2011 Asian Chess Championship in India. As a little child, he successfully completed his primary education, scoring 181 on the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination. His high score qualified him to participate in the 2013 Sri Lankan Junior Science Olympiad (SLJSO), where he received awards for his performances.

In the sixth grade, Tharaka once again represented Sri Lanka at the 2014 Asian Chess Championship, held in Taiwan. Following this, he ventured into mathematics and science competitions, participating nationally and internationally. In 2015, he claimed a bronze medal at the 12th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) in Thailand. In 2017, he received national recognition at the Sri Lankan Junior Science Olympiad (SLJSO) and subsequently won another bronze medal at the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) in Botswana in 2018. Tharaka's journey continued in 2019 when he took part in the South African International Mathematics Competition (SAIMC) and secured yet another bronze medal.

Tharaka continued to be involved in both extracurricular and curricular activities in College. He became a prefect in the ninth grade. In the same year, he joined the Senior Western Cadet Band and rose to the rank of Lance Corporal. He remained in the cadet band until he completed his GCE O Levels. In the Ordinary Level Examination, he earned nine distinctions in English medium. During his Advanced Level years, he joined the Astronomical Society of St. Anne's College and became its President.

Earlier this month, the results of the 2022 Advanced Level Examination were released, and Tharaka was ranked 1st in the district and 7th in the island in Physical Science stream. This is a fitting end to his College journey, which was filled with major achievements and milestones. As he embarks on his higher education, we at St. Anne's College extend our heartfelt wishes to Tharaka for his future endeavors and for the pursuit of all his dreams.

  • Performances of our young Annites in the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination.

Congratulations to all of our students and many thanks to our Primary College Principal and Class Teachers.

  • Persevering Imraz Fayroze crowned Champion at 2022 Katukurunda Circuit Race

Annite alumnus Imraz Fayroze cruised to victory at the 2022 Katukurunda Circuit Race, garnering yet another shield for his ever-expanding trophy cabinet.

The competition was held earlier this month at the Katukurunda Air Force Station and was organized by Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS), the governing body for motorsport in Sri Lanka. Imraz competed under SL-A Mini 7 Class.

During the selection phase, Imraz encountered an unexpected incident where his car was overturned. Each player is allocated 8 rounds during this phase and grid position for the final is awarded based on the fastest time recorded by the players in all of their laps. While all other players enjoyed the luxury of 8 rounds, Imraz was only able to partake in one round as a result of this incident. However, the one round he took was good enough for him to secure second place on the grid. Why do you want eight rounds when you can do it in one round? He barely missed out on the first slot on the grid.

Undeterred, Imraz was able to fix his vehicle within 24 hours and made it to the finals. The tough incident he faced only made him stronger and even more resolved to win, being a testament to the true Annites spirit of Possumus. And courage like this deserves only one outcome, victory and that's exactly what he got in the end.

If you take a good look at his nifty car, you can see the 27-year-old proudly carries the College crest in every race he takes. Well, that's certainly one way to bring Annites glory.

And this is not the first time that Imraz got hold of this Championship trophy, he has already repeated it so many times in the past; more on that to come in another report, as it's bit too much to bring all in one.

This year our splendid Annites never fell short of bringing glory and Imraz's victory adds a fitting end as we approach the end of the year.
