This year marked the highest cutoff percentage recorded in our College's recent past. St. Anne's College currently holds the highest cutoff mark among Provincial Schools island-wide for Grade 06 admissions based on the scholarship examination. This recent achievement reaffirms and justifies our standing.
The exam itself took place after a challenging academic period. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with the prevailing unrest in the country at the time, led to intermittent closures of educational institutions. This prompted a shift to remote learning, significantly affecting the proficiency levels of students, particularly those in primary education. It's important not to overlook this context when evaluating the results.
Acknowledgment goes to Reverend Father Principal Chandana Hapuarachchi, Deputy Principal of the Primary Section Mr. Meril Jayawardena, and our dedicated teachers. Their commitment and prompt actions to guide our students post-lockdown played a pivotal role. Appreciation extends to the supportive parents who collaborated in these efforts and our students for their perseverance through these trying times. Students showing such responsibility towards their education and lives at such a young age, is truly commendable.
The latest result reflects collaborative commitment. We aim to build on this and further enhance performances in the upcoming year.
Drama and Theatre students of St. Anne's College emerged as the winners of the North Western Province contest of the 2023 All Island School Drama and Theatre Festival, securing major awards including Best Direction, Best Music Composition, Best Dramatic Arrangement, and a complete sweep in Best Stage Performance, claiming all 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.
They competed in the Sanskrit Drama category with their performance of 'Mṛcchakaṭika', a play by Śūdraka. The event was organized by the Ministry of Education. We wish our team all the success as they prepare to compete at the national level of this event.
Today is Deepavali, which celebrates the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil and marks the victory of knowledge. Just as St. Anne's College lights up the path for its students, may this festival illuminate your life with happiness and bright possibilities. Happy Deepavali!
The St. Anne's College Western Cadet Band, who climbed to 4th in rank out of 42 at the 2023 All Island Western Cadet Band Competition, posed for a group photo. The team members are seen here alongside Reverend Father Principal Chandana Hapuarachchi and Teacher in-Charge Mrs. Ferdita Tennekoon.
Having secured the 5th position last year, they managed to move up one spot in the latest rankings. The event was organized by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Sri Lanka and took place at the NCC Training Center in Rantambe.
This achievement adds to their success, having claimed the Air Force Challenge Trophy as winners of the Inter School Drill and Band Competition earlier this year. As the College Western Band continues to shine, a special reception was held at the College late last month in recognition of their impressive work.
We, the Annites family, wholeheartedly wish our Western Cadet Band to be able to reach even greater heights!
